Description

The pre-1950s carved wood mask depicts an elongated painted face with cowrie shell eyes and shell nose ornaments, a feather headdress, and a grass fringe. A multitude of small shells are set in clay on the forehead and beard, with larger inset shell disks (some missing). 35" x 8". Condition: There are losses to the clay at top and bottom, and the strips of clay along the sides of the face are missing; noted missing shell disks; one wood earring is detached.
